چکیده

We consider the problem of planar spanning tree transformation in a two-dimensional plane. Given two planar trees T1 and T2 drawn on a set S of n points in general position in the plane, the problem is to transform T1 into T2 by a sequence of simple changes called edge-flips or just flips. A flip is an operation by which one edge e of a geometric object is removed and an edge f (f 6= e) is inserted such that the resulting object belongs to the same class as the original object. Generally, for geometric transformation, the usual technique is to rely on some ‘canonical’ object which can be obtained by making simple changes to the initial object and then doing the reverse operations that transform the canonical object to the desired object. In this paper, we present a technique for such transformation that does not rely on any canonical tree. It is shown that T1 and T2 can be transformed into each other by at most n − 1 + k flips (k ≥ 0) when S is in convex position and we also show results when S is in general position. We provide cases where the approach performs an optimal number of flips. A counterexample is given to show that if |T1 \ T2| = k then they cannot be transformed to one another by at most k flips.

On a Tree and a Path with no Geometric Simultaneous Embedding

Two graphs G1 = (V,E1) and G2 = (V,E2) admit a geometric simultaneous embedding if there exist a set of points P and a bijection M : V → P that induce planar straight-line embeddings both for G1 and for G2. The most prominent problem in this area is the question of whether a tree and a path can always be simultaneously embedded. We answer this question in the negative by providing a counterexam...

An application of geometrical isometries in non-planar molecules

In this paper we introduce a novel methodology to transmit the origin to the center of a polygon in a molecule structure such that the special axis be perpendicular to the plane containing the polygon. The mathematical calculation are described completely and the algorithm will be showed as a computer program.

Diplomarbeit Algorithms for Planar Graph Augmentation

Acknowledgement The reader may forgive me for writing this Short Abstract This diploma thesis deals with several special cases of the Planar Augmentation Problem. Here, we search for a minimum number of edges whose addition bicon-nects the graph while planarity is preserved. In general, this optimization problem is N P-hard and the previously best known approximation algorithm achieves a ratio ...

Modeling Flexibility Effects in Robotic Arms Via the Modified 4x4 D-H Homogeneous Transformation

This paper presents a method for the kinematical modeling of robot manipulator arms with flexible members. Development of such techniques are important for the improvement of robotic arms precision performance and their mechanical design. The approach employs the (4X4) Denavit-Hartenberg homogeneous transformations to describe the kinematics of light weight flexible manipulator arms. The method...
